Sacred Heart Basilica in Augustów

The Sacred Heart Basilica is a large brick structure in the city center featuring two towers and multiple prayer areas with five altars throughout its interior. The space is divided by tall arches and displays carefully crafted details in its design.

The building was constructed between 1906 and 1911, replacing an earlier church that stood on the same spot. After suffering damage during wartime events in 1944, it was later reconstructed and restored.

The stained glass portrays religious scenes connected to Polish history spanning several centuries. As you walk through the building, you notice how faith and national identity are woven together in these images.

The building is open to visitors during daylight hours and serves an active role in regular worship practices. It is easily walkable from downtown and has a welcoming entrance area.

The main altar features a lower decorated section with golden elements and is flanked by statues of Saint Bartholomew and angels. This arrangement creates a special focal point when entering the interior space.
