Szyb Carnall, Coal mine shaft and headframe in Zabrze, Poland.
The Carnall shaft extends 503 meters below ground and features a steel headframe that stands as an engineering example of industrial mining infrastructure.
Built in 1853, the shaft was named after Rudolf von Carnall, the director of the Higher Mining Office in Wroclaw who supervised mining operations in Zabrze.
The shaft forms part of the Queen Louise Mining Complex, where visitors learn about the mining traditions that shaped the local community for generations.
Guided tours of the facility include access to a viewing platform on the headframe and exploration of the preserved engine room with its machinery.
In 2009, workers excavated the shaft to a depth of 40 meters, allowing access to the Main Key Hereditary Adit for tourism purposes.
