Central Military Archives, Military archive in Rembertów, Warsaw, Poland.
The Central Military Archives in Rembertow is a military archive in Warsaw, Poland, holding documents, photographs, maps, and personnel records from the Polish armed forces. The holdings are organized into ten chronological groups covering the full history of the modern Polish military.
The archive was founded in 1918 after the end of World War I, initially storing its records at Fort Legionow in the Warsaw Citadel. It later moved to its current location in Rembertow.
The archive holds personal files of soldiers from many different periods, giving visitors a direct connection to the people behind the records. Many families come here looking for documents about relatives who served in the Polish armed forces.
The archive is not a museum and is open to the public only by prior appointment, as it is a working research facility. Weekdays tend to offer the best access, when staff are most available to assist researchers.
During World War II, parts of the collection were moved to Romania, Britain, and Potsdam to protect them from destruction. Documents held in Soviet custody did not return until 1964.
