Teatr Mały w Warszawie

Teatr Mały was a chamber theatre near Marszalkowska Street, located in a basement beneath a cinema building. The space held approximately 300 seats arranged around a stage of about 12 by 4 meters.

The theatre was founded in 1973 as part of Warsaw's experimental theatre scene, intended as an alternative to larger traditional venues. It closed in 2009 after the cinema building ceased its cultural operations.

This venue functioned as a chamber stage for the National Theatre, presenting experimental and contemporary works for smaller audiences. The close seating arrangement created an intimate connection between performers and spectators.

The venue was accessible from Marszalkowska Street number 104-122, reached by passing through a department store in central Warsaw. Visitors should note that the basement location meant the surroundings were underground and compact.

The theatre had no storage or workshop facilities, requiring sets and props to be transported daily from the National Theatre. This logistical arrangement made mounting productions at this venue particularly demanding.
