Castle in Solec nad Wisłą, Medieval castle ruins at Vistula River bank in Solec nad Wisłą, Poland
The fortress stands on a steep slope of the Vistula valley, separated from the town by a deep ravine, with remaining foundation fragments and tower traces.
King Casimir the Great constructed this defensive structure in the 14th century to protect the important trade route crossing at the Vistula River.
The castle served as a royal residence and administrative center, housing both castellans and starosts who managed the surrounding royal territories.
Visitors can view the castle ruins from Zamkowa Street, which runs along the southern wall, though the structure itself remains closed for safety reasons.
A 1654 survey described the castle's refined features, including a bridge with detailed handrails and a fountain decorated with a dragon made of seashells.
