Zakład Psychiatryczny w Owińskach

The Provinzial-Irren-Heilanstalt zu Owinsk is an abandoned psychiatric facility located north of Poznań near the Warta River. The grounds contain multiple brick buildings of varying sizes spread across open spaces.

The facility was founded in 1838 as one of the first institutions of its kind in the region. During World War II it was occupied by German forces and later repurposed as a concentration camp.

The institution was a significant center for psychiatric care in the region and drew patients from a wide area. Today the place reflects the role of medical facilities in society and how their purpose changed over the decades.

The site is not accessible to visitors as the buildings are in poor condition and protected. The complex can best be viewed from public roads surrounding the property.

The grounds were designed in its early years based on progressive therapeutic ideas, with open gardens and workshops for patients. This philosophy of treatment through work and activity was forward-thinking for that period.
