Dobra Castle

Dobra Castle is a fortress ruin in Dobra that dates to the Middle Ages and displays Renaissance features. The building still shows preserved plaster decorations on its facades from the 16th century and substantial defensive walls that tell of its original strength.

The first mention in documents dates to 1287, when the castle stood under the rule of Przybysław IV of Parchimia. Over the centuries it remained an important site of regional control in Pomerania.

The castle served as a center of local authority for centuries and shows today how defensive structures gradually became family residences. Visitors can see in the walls and layout how the building evolved from a purely military stronghold to a noble dwelling.

Visitors can explore the ruin grounds freely and walk across the terrain. The walls are partly accessible, but their height and open sections require care and sturdy footwear.

During a conflict between Pomerania and Brandenburg in 1478, Duke Bogusław X used the fortress as a strategic shelter for his troops. This episode shows how important the site was for the regional power struggles of that time.
