Zamek w Drohiczynie

Zamek w Drohiczynie is a medieval castle ruin positioned on a steep hilltop overlooking the Bug River valley. The partially preserved stone walls feature Gothic architectural details including pointed arches and defensive towers.

This fortress was founded in the 12th century as a strategic regional power center and served as a princely residence. It gradually lost importance over the centuries and was eventually damaged, leaving only the ruins we see today.

The fortress served as a seat of power where regional disputes were settled and local matters were decided. Today, people visit the ruins to understand how this place once shaped life in the surrounding region.

The hilltop is accessible from the town center and clearly visible from various points throughout Drohiczyn. Wear sturdy footwear because the climb is steep and the ground is uneven in places.

Underground corridors and chambers lie beneath the ruined walls, discovered during archaeological work in the 1880s. These hidden spaces suggest the castle had a more intricate layout than its visible remains indicate.
