Namysłów Castle

Namysłów Castle is a brick fortress built on a raised mound in the town center, featuring an irregular rectangular layout. It sits adjacent to a modern brewery facility that now occupies much of the surrounding area.

Construction began in 1312 with wooden foundations, but in 1360 King Charles IV of Bohemia ordered its conversion into a brick fortress. This transformation strengthened its defenses and increased its regional importance.

The fortress served as a gathering place for regional leaders who shaped the area's political landscape during the Middle Ages. You can still see how it anchors the town's center and remains part of local identity today.

The fortress is privately owned by the local brewery and currently open only for exterior viewing. The best perspective of the structure can be enjoyed from the adjacent public square, where details of the brick walls are clearly visible.

A rare preserved chapel bay window from the 14th century remains on the north section of the fortress, showing architectural details from that era. This element survives intact in few medieval fortifications, offering a glimpse into interior design practices of the time.
