Nowe Castle

Nowe Castle is a medieval fortress along the Vistula River featuring a well-preserved eastern wing and defensive ramparts. The structure sits strategically on a high escarpment overlooking the river valley, defining the local landscape.

The fortress was built in the mid-14th century by the Teutonic Order to replace a destroyed Pomeranian stronghold. Its construction was part of a broader effort to control the region along the Vistula River.

The castle functions as a cultural center today, hosting medieval events and early music performances. You can experience knight gatherings and historical reenactments that bring the Middle Ages to life within these walls.

The castle can be reached via Plac Zamkowy and is best explored on foot, though the elevation requires some physical effort. A cafe with river views offers a comfortable place to rest and take in the surroundings.

The interior contains Gothic frescoes preserved in window niches, showing the artistic taste of its medieval builders. Over time, the structure served completely different purposes, from an evangelical church to a fire station.
