St. Gertrude Chapel in Koszalin is an octagonal brick structure with eight buttresses and pointed windows featuring three-light tracery. The roof has a distinctive pyramidal shape topped by a sharp spire.
The chapel was built in 1382 to 1383 by the town council as part of a hospital complex. Over the centuries it served different purposes, including as an ammunition store in the 1700s.
The chapel is dedicated to Saint Gertrude and has shaped the cemetery's appearance for centuries. Its octagonal form remains an unusual sight in the local landscape today.
The chapel is located within the town cemetery and is easily accessible from the outside. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes as the surrounding grounds are uneven.
The interior features an eight-pointed stellar vault supported by cylindrical columns. This vaulting technique demonstrates advanced brick construction methods from the late 1300s.
