Pakość Calvary, Religious complex in Pakość, Poland.
Pakość Calvary is a shrine comprising twenty-five chapels positioned along both banks of the Noteć river within a landscape of trees and winding paths. The structures vary in size and construction style, with stone chapels standing alongside smaller wooden buildings.
The shrine began taking shape from 1628 when the first chapels were constructed, receiving its Crucifixion church in 1661 as a focal point. Additional chapels were added across subsequent centuries, reflecting the region's Catholic revival.
The chapels reflect centuries of religious practice in this place, with each structure dedicated to a different moment in the life of Christ. You can observe how pilgrims move through the space as a form of personal devotion.
Start your visit at Saint Bonaventure Church on Inowrocławska Street, where you will find information points and parking. From there you can follow the paths connecting the chapels, and sturdy shoes are recommended for walking the uneven terrain.
This complex remains the only fully intact Calvary system spanning the combined regions of Wielkopolska and Kujawy. This distinction makes it a rare example of a pilgrimage site that has survived unchanged across all centuries.
