The brick church features a double-aisle layout with massive central pillars supporting ribbed vaults and a three-sided chancel extending from the main structure.
Originally established in the late 13th century as a wooden structure, the church was rebuilt in brick after destruction by Lithuanian forces in 1349.
The church formed part of a hospital complex where monks of the Order of the Holy Ghost provided care for sick, elderly, and impoverished individuals.
The church maintains its position within the old town defensive walls, situated near the Opatowska and Zawichojska gates of Sandomierz.
The nave of this religious building previously served dual purposes, functioning both as a medical facility and a place of worship.
