Holy Cross Church in Leszno, Lutheran church building in Leszno, Poland
Holy Cross Church in Leszno is a brick building featuring eight columns that support the main prayer hall and Tuscan pilasters running along the walls. The structure combines these architectural elements to create a unified interior space with clear visual organization.
The building was constructed in 1715 according to a design by Pompeo Ferrari and supervised by Jan Adam Stier. It replaced earlier structures that had been destroyed by fires during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The church reflects the religious diversity of the region through its architectural style and past uses. Walking through it shows how faith communities have shaped local identity over centuries.
The church sits about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Poznań and stands out in the town through its tower and dome. Its elevated position on the skyline helps visitors locate it easily from different parts of the town.
The church grounds contain a lapidarium holding more than 100 sandstone graves from the 17th to 19th centuries. These monuments were moved here from old Protestant cemeteries and create a unique outdoor collection of religious monuments.
