Boca dos Namorados is a mountain pass and scenic viewpoint located between Jardim da Serra and Curral das Freiras on the island of Madeira, Portugal. From here, visitors look out over a deep valley surrounded by steep mountain slopes, with eucalyptus trees framing the open view on either side.
The pass has long served as a route for local people moving between villages on either side of the valley. In 1879, the poet Joaquim Pestana wrote about the view from this area, noting how on clear days one could see as far as the port of Funchal to the south.
The view tends to be clearest in the early morning or late afternoon, when light is soft and the valley below is less likely to be covered in cloud. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since the ground around the viewpoint can be uneven.
Local accounts mention that sounds made in the valley below, such as a firecracker or a loud shot, echo back several times off the surrounding rock walls, making the acoustic effect noticeable even from the pass. Every year on August 27, small stalls built from pine and laurel branches appear here when people from Curral das Freiras pass through on their way to the Festa do Livramento.
