Probota Monastery

Probota Monastery is an Orthodox religious complex in Dolhasca where a central church dedicated to Saint Nicholas sits within strong defensive walls and corner towers. The entire layout shows a well-organized compound where the church occupies the center and the site is protected by fortifications built during the 16th century.

The site was founded in 1530 under the rule of Peter IV Rareş and later became a burial ground for Moldavian rulers. This gave the location major importance for the region's leadership and shaped how the place developed over time.

The interior wall paintings show religious scenes that shape how the space looks today and give visitors insight into prayer practices from centuries past. You can see how faith is expressed through the images that cover the walls.

Visitors can see a museum collection in the prior's house that holds religious objects like icons, furniture, and liturgical vessels spanning different periods. The grounds are easy to walk through and allow you to explore all the main areas at a comfortable pace.

The altar shows a particular representation of Christ's sacrifice during a religious ceremony with fourteen clergy members and two deacons depicted. This specific composition is a rare example of a complex religious scene from that period.
