Мост Красного Курсанта, bridge in Russia
Мост Красного Курсанта is a concrete bridge in Saint Petersburg that crosses the Zdanovka River and connects the Petrovsky and Petrogradsky Islands. It features a single span supported by sturdy concrete piers faced with granite and runs about 57 meters long.
An original wooden bridge stood at this location from the early 1800s and was moved to this site in 1836, but deteriorated over time. The current concrete bridge was completed in 1962, replacing the unsafe wooden structure that had been closed in 1957.
The bridge has wide sidewalks on both sides for pedestrians and accommodates vehicle traffic across the river. It remains accessible daily and is regularly maintained to ensure safe crossing conditions for all users.
The design of this bridge helped pioneer new concrete construction techniques using pre-stressed beams for large spans. These innovative methods were later applied to build the Tuchkov Bridge across the Neva River.
