This building began in 1881 as a small printing shop with a single press and grew rapidly into a major production facility. By 1896 it had become an official supplier to the Imperial Court, establishing its importance in Russian publishing.

The factory served as a major publishing house for Russian literature, printing works by celebrated writers of the time. Visitors can still sense this literary past when walking around the building and its surroundings.
