Fyodor Schechtel house

The Fyodor Schechtel house is a three-story mansion designed in Art Nouveau style with neoclassical elements in Moscow's Presnensky District. The structure features a central hall with a grand staircase, classical columns, and an entrance decorated with reliefs inspired by ancient Greek architecture.

Architect Fyodor Schechtel completed this residence in 1910 over four months as his third and final personal home in Moscow. The building fell into disrepair over time, but restoration efforts started in 1993 and eventually transformed it into a public cultural center.

The residence became a gathering place for Russian artists and intellectuals who exchanged ideas within its rooms. Visitors can sense the cultural importance this home held for Moscow's creative circles in the early 20th century.

The building is open to the public as a cultural center hosting exhibitions and events throughout the year. Visitors can explore the interior spaces at a comfortable pace and should plan to spend time discovering the architectural details across all three floors.

The rooftop included a technical floor and terrace space that overlooked Patriarch Ponds and provided a retreat for residents. Few visitors today realize this upper level existed as a private recreational area with views across the neighborhood.
