The house of poet Apollon Maykov is a three-story classical building with symmetrical facades divided into ten sections, featuring a central pediment and ornate window decorations. The structure displays the hallmarks of early 19th-century neoclassical design with carefully balanced proportions throughout.

The building was constructed between 1780 and 1790 as a residence for a wealthy family. During the Moscow fire of 1812, it sustained damage but retained two original stone chambers that have survived to the present day.

This house served as the residence of the Maykov family, a prominent lineage devoted to Russian literature and arts. You can walk through the rooms where poet Apollon Nikolaevich Maykov created his literary works and spent his daily life.

The building is located on Bolshaya Spasskaya Street and is accessible for exterior viewing, where you can examine the facade and overall condition. Following comprehensive restoration work from 2006 to 2009, the house now displays its original early 19th-century appearance.

The facade features an image of Medusa Gorgon, a symbol deliberately incorporated into the design to ward off adversaries and protect the building. This ancient protective emblem is a fascinating detail that many visitors overlook when viewing the exterior.
