The structure, built between 1780 and 1790, suffered damage during the Moscow fire of 1812 but retained two original stone chambers.

The Maykov noble family, including poet Apollon Nikolaevich Maykov, owned this property from 1838 to 1906, contributing to Russian literature.

The building, located on Bolshaya Spasskaya Street, underwent restoration from 2006 to 2009, returning it to its early 19th-century appearance.

The facade displays a Medusa Gorgon image, which was incorporated into the design to protect the building from adversaries.
