The Levasheva City Estate comprises multiple buildings, including a two-story brick house and a six-story gray building on Novaya Basmannaya Street.
The estate belonged to Countess E.I. Shuvalova in 1782 before passing to the noble Levashev family, who renovated the structures in 1831.
Writer Pyotr Chaadaev resided in this estate from 1833, where he wrote his philosophical work 'Apology of a Madman' until his death in 1856.
The estate currently houses the Radio Engineering Institute, maintaining its status as a protected regional cultural heritage site in Moscow.
The mansion witnessed the moment when Pyotr Chaadaev received the official declaration of his insanity in 1836, marking a significant event in Russian intellectual history.
