The building was constructed in 1912 as a working water tower with a British steam engine that supplied the city's water until 1950. After that, the structure was repurposed and converted into a museum dedicated to local history.
The museum displays rooms from the 19th century that recreate everyday life from that era. You can see a period tavern, pawnshop, and residential spaces as people actually lived in them.
The museum is relatively easy to reach and offers good views of the city from the observation platform at the top. The climb up the narrow spiral staircase takes some time and is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
