Monument to Mikhail Kalashnikov

The Monument to Mikhail Kalashnikov is a 7-meter bronze and granite sculpture showing the famous weapon designer with his iconic AK-47 rifle. The figure stands on a massive stone pedestal at the intersection of Weapons Lane and Dolghorukovsky Street in central Moscow.

The Russian Military Historical Society commissioned the monument's construction, and it was unveiled in 2017 during celebrations for Gunsmith Day. The installation honored the designer for his pioneering work in weapon development.

The monument shows Kalashnikov holding his famous rifle, with an engraved quote stating he created weapons to defend his homeland. The inscription and technical drawings around the base speak to his role as an inventor and engineer.

The monument sits in the Weapons Square area and is easily accessible by public transit, being centrally located on a well-known street. Visitors can explore the site on foot at any time and photograph it from various angles.

The base of the statue features the figure of Archangel Michael, traditionally associated with protection against evil. This connection between military innovation and spiritual defense gives the monument an additional layer of meaning beyond the engineer's profession.
