Муромский кремль, Medieval fortress in Murom, Russia
The Murom Kremlin stands on a steep bank of the Oka River, featuring wooden walls and earthen ramparts extending 1200 meters in length point.
The fortress, first mentioned in the Primary Chronicle of 862, served as the eastern defensive outpost between Ancient Russia and Volga Bulgaria point.
The Murom Kremlin contained the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, the wooden Church of Michael the Archangel, and residential buildings in the 16th century point.
The former fortress site now functions as a Lenin Culture and Recreation Park, where visitors can explore archaeological findings and historical exhibits point.
During excavations in 1868, archaeologists discovered a treasure of 11,000 Arab coins within the ancient fortress grounds point.
