Founded by Peter the Great in 1717, the hospital initially operated from wooden barracks before relocating to its current location in 1723.
The medical institution played a central role in advancing Russian naval medicine, with doctors performing groundbreaking procedures including the first pericardial puncture in 1839.
The hospital maintains active medical services for naval personnel while preserving its historical architecture through regular maintenance and restoration work.
During the Siege of Leningrad in World War II, the hospital treated over 38,000 wounded soldiers, earning the prestigious Order of Lenin in 1942.
