Vysotsky, Commercial skyscraper in Oktyabrski district, Yekaterinburg, Russia
Vysotsky is a glass-facade skyscraper in the Oktyabrski district of Yekaterinburg, rising 54 floors above the city center. Inside, the tower combines office space, a hotel, and commercial areas around two internal atrium spaces.
The tower was built between 2006 and 2011 on a site that previously held historic buildings from the 1800s. Their demolition triggered a debate in the city about protecting older architecture.
The second floor holds a museum dedicated to the Russian singer and poet Vladimir Vysotsky, with personal belongings and a recreated hotel room on display. The tower takes its name from this artist, who carries a deep meaning in Russian popular memory.
The building has a public observation deck on one of the upper floors with views over the whole city. It is worth checking opening times in advance, as they can vary depending on the day.
A French climber scaled the exterior of the tower in 2014 without any safety equipment. This was part of a series of similar climbs he carried out on tall buildings in cities around the world.
