The monument, unveiled in 1966 at Soviet Square, honors soldiers of the 30th and 1st Strike Armies who defended Moscow during World War II.
The memorial complex includes a commemorative plaque detailing the November 28, 1941 events when Soviet forces halted German troops near Dmitrov.
The monument relocated to its current position in December 2001 during the reconstruction of Soviet Square in central Dmitrov.
The memorial uses the concrete foundation from a previous Stalin monument that occupied the same location before the tank installation.
