Borisoglebsky Monastery, Dmitrov

Borisoglebsky Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in Dmitrov featuring a stone cathedral built in the 16th century as its central structure. The compound is enclosed by thick defensive walls that contain the Nicholas Gate Church and residential cells for the monastic community.

The earliest written record of the monastery appears in Prince Yuri Vasilyevich's document from 1472, establishing its presence in medieval Russia. This foundation date shows the site was already an important religious center during the period of Moscow's early growth.

The monastery serves as a living place of Orthodox worship, where monks maintain centuries-old religious practices and local pilgrims gather for services. The site remains a spiritual center for the region, and visitors can observe how faith shapes the daily rhythm of life here.

Archaeological digs around the cathedral uncovered remains of a dugout dwelling with pottery pieces from the late 13th century. These findings reveal that people lived at this location centuries before the monastery was formally established.
