Museum Ilinsky Frontiers, War memorial museum in Ilinskoe, Russia
Museum Ilinsky Frontiers is a memorial site in Ilinskoe, a small town southwest of Moscow, dedicated to the World War II defensive line held in this area. The grounds feature original bunkers, anti-tank obstacles, and artillery pieces, alongside an indoor exhibition with documents, photographs, and personal objects from the soldiers stationed here.
In October 1941, during the German advance on Moscow, cadets from the Podolsk Military School held this line for several weeks. Their resistance gave the Red Army time to gather fresh forces behind the front.
School groups and veterans regularly visit the site to pay their respects to the cadets who fought here. The preserved bunkers and memorial stones give the place a tone that visitors notice immediately upon arrival.
The site is walkable, but the ground is uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is recommended. In autumn and winter the terrain can be muddy or icy, so dress accordingly.
The cadets were deployed here without full equipment and fought with outdated weapons in some cases. Some had not finished their training when they were ordered to take up their positions.
