Писаница «Старая Брянь»

Pisanica Staraya Bryn is a rock shelter featuring red ochre paintings on its interior walls, with most artwork concentrated on the right side. Located roughly 50 meters above the Shabur River, the site has a square entrance opening into a horizontal rectangular chamber.

The rock art belongs to the Selenga group tradition from Transbaikalia and represents a significant phase of prehistoric human activity in the region. This art form shows how early communities expressed themselves through cave paintings during ancient times.

The painted walls display symbols created by people who once lived here, including animal and human figures as well as sun signs. These images reflect what mattered to the ancient inhabitants and how they saw their world.

The site is accessed by descending steep slopes and requires careful footing during approach. Natural light enters mainly through the entrance, making it difficult to view the paintings in the deeper interior sections.

The cave floor is covered with a thick layer of bird droppings, roughly 20 to 30 centimeters deep, showing that birds used this rock shelter as a roost for centuries. This deposit has helped protect the ancient paintings from weathering and decay.
