Rose Pavilion, Pavlovsk

The Rose Pavilion is located within the grounds of Pavlovsk Palace and displays a neoclassical design with clear lines and balanced proportions. The building sits surrounded by rose gardens and parkland that extends across the estate.

The structure was completed in 1811 under the reign of Paul I and later welcomed Emperor Alexander I during festivities celebrating Napoleon's defeat in 1814.

The pavilion served as a gathering place where writers and thinkers like Vasily Zhukovsky and Nikolai Karamzin came together. People attended Maria Feodorovna's salons here to discuss ideas and share their work.

The site is open during summer months from May through October when the rose gardens are in full bloom and the grounds are most appealing. Visitors should wear comfortable footwear since there is much to explore on foot throughout the estate.

During World War II, German forces dismantled sections of the structure to use as military fortifications, causing significant damage to the building. Restoration took decades and remains an important part of its modern history.
