The Grachev Mansion is a stone house featuring early classical design from the 18th century, with a U-shaped floor plan, two stories, and a central three-window projection above a white stone base. The structure displays the architectural balance and proportions typical of that period.
Built between 1743 and 1819, the mansion belonged to Efim Grachev, who founded a linen factory in 1748 and became the wealthiest industrialist in Ivanovo. His manufactory helped establish the city's later reputation as a textile hub.
The upper floor held a prayer room for Old Believers, functioning as a space where the community gathered for both spiritual observance and shared conversations.
The building now operates as a Children's Creative Center, making it accessible to visitors interested in viewing its educational use. Hours may vary depending on the center's programs, so checking ahead is helpful before planning your visit.
In 1795, Grachev paid the remarkable sum of 135,000 rubles to buy his freedom from serfdom, an extraordinary feat for a man of his era. Emperor Alexander I later honored his contributions to the textile industry with a gold medal.
