Памятник Ивану Яковлеву, Bronze monument near National Library in Cheboksary, Russia
The monument to Ivan Yakovlev depicts the figure seated with a book in hand, cast from bronze and weighing approximately three tons. The statue sits on a two-step platform positioned near the National Library of Cheboksary.
The monument was designed by sculptor David Naroditsky and architect Grigory Sayevich, unveiled on June 25, 1970 on Lenin Avenue. It was created to commemorate Yakovlev's life work and his significance in shaping Chuvash cultural development.
The inscription on the granite plaque is written in both Russian and Chuvash, honoring Yakovlev's contribution to the development of Chuvash writing. Visitors can experience the linguistic diversity of the region reflected in these two languages displayed on the memorial.
Visit in the afternoon when light and shadow bring out the details of the bronze figure. The area around the National Library is easy to reach and offers plenty of space to walk and spend time.
The monument's base was originally installed at ground level but was later raised more than one meter on a stepped foundation. This relocation made the work more visible and accessible to visitors.
