Väsby kungsgård, Working life museum in Sala Municipality, Sweden
Väsby kungsgård is a working life museum located on a manor estate in Sala Municipality and houses roughly 7,000 objects from the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection includes weapons, furniture, household items, and various tools displayed across several buildings on the grounds.
The estate originated as a manor property and later became a center for crafts and everyday work in the region. Furniture in the dining room belonged to a German mining engineer who worked at the local silver mine around the turn of the century.
The museum displays hunting equipment, fishing gear, and household tools that show how people lived and worked in earlier times. These items are arranged in themed rooms that reflect the daily skills and crafts that were essential to survival.
The museum is spread across multiple buildings on the grounds, so plan to spend time exploring each section at a comfortable pace. Sturdy footwear is recommended since you will walk between buildings and the terrain may be uneven in places.
The outbuildings contain a collection of historic carriages and a reconstructed miner's home that shows how mining workers lived and organized their domestic spaces. The museum also preserves an extensive collection of decorative tile stoves from different periods, many of which remain where they were originally installed.
