Stennäs sommarhus

Stennäs sommarhus is a wooden residential building built on sloping terrain in Lisö, spread across four levels with a main structure and several smaller wooden outbuildings. The complex includes separate structures for a sauna, outdoor toilets, and storage for firewood and equipment.

This summer house was designed and built by architect Gunnar Asplund between 1936 and 1937. The project combined traditional building materials with the design thinking of that decade.

This summer home reflects how Swedish builders placed houses to work with the land, sitting among granite outcrops and water views. The design shows the way people of that era thought about connecting their homes to nature around them.

The property sits on sloping ground with multiple levels, so visiting requires navigating different elevations as you walk around. You can explore the different areas and see how each part of the complex served its purpose.

The dining and living areas sit at a seven degree angle to the main building, creating specific sight lines to the archipelago and its inlets below. This subtle rotation was an intentional design choice to capture the best views.
