Strážov, Mountain summit in Ilava District, Slovakia.
Strážov is a mountain summit in the Western Carpathians of Slovakia, sitting at the boundary of the Ilava, Považská Bystrica, and Žilina districts. Its peak is marked by exposed limestone cliffs that rise above forested slopes on all sides.
The limestone rock formations at Strážov were shaped by the same tectonic forces that built the Carpathian range over a very long period. The result is a peak with exposed rock that contrasts with the older, softer terrain surrounding it.
Strážov is a popular destination for hikers from the surrounding valleys, who often visit on weekends. At the top, a small viewpoint offers a wide view over the ridges of the Western Carpathians.
Marked trails lead to the summit, but the terrain can be confusing in places, so it is worth checking trail markers regularly. Solid footwear is recommended, as the upper section is rocky and uneven.
Standing on the summit means standing at the meeting point of three Slovak districts at once. This kind of triple administrative boundary on a single peak is rare and makes the spot easy to remember.
