Encyklopedický ústav Slovenskej akadémie vied

The Encyclopedic Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences is a research center that collects and maintains reference works and materials covering many fields of knowledge. The facility was founded in 1959 when eight employees from the dictionary department of the Osveta publishing house laid the groundwork by preparing entries for knowledge dictionaries. The scope of work later expanded to include the creation and publication of more comprehensive reference materials.

The institute curates reference works that document scientific developments and knowledge within Slovak society. These collections reflect the intellectual exchange and expertise that have shaped the country's academic tradition.

Since 1994 the facility has focused on publishing the Encyclopaedie Beliany, recognized as the most comprehensive general encyclopedia in the Slovak language. This long-term project shows the institute's commitment to making the full range of knowledge available in one language.
