Shambe National Park

Shambe National Park is a protected area along the White Nile in the Adior region, stretching across wetlands and grasslands. The river runs through the landscape, and the park covers approximately 620 square kilometers.

The park was established in 1985 as part of South Sudan's effort to protect its natural landscapes. This designation was an important step in creating the national conservation system.

People living near the park follow traditional ways of life and take part in efforts to protect the wildlife around them. You can see how local communities and nature are closely connected here.

The park is open year-round, but conditions change with the seasons. During the wet season, the Sudd wetlands expand and certain areas become harder to reach.

The area contains large peat deposits that tell a deep geological story. Lions, giraffes, ostriches, and possibly northern white rhinoceros live here, showing the variety of life in this wetland.
