Highland Light, Historic lighthouse in Truro, United States
Highland Light is a brick tower located at the tip of Cape Cod that stands approximately 20 meters tall. The structure features white exterior walls and a black lantern room at its top that houses the beacon.
The lighthouse was built in 1797 to help guide ships safely through waters off the Massachusetts coast. In 1996, the entire structure was moved approximately 140 meters inland to protect it from ongoing coastal erosion.
The lighthouse stands as a testament to maritime navigation, with the keeper's house now functioning as a museum and souvenir shop.
The site is open to visitors from May through October with views of the rugged coastal landscape and offshore waters. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since access to the tower requires climbing stairs and the surrounding area is rocky.
The beacon emits a single white flash every five seconds, a distinctive pattern that seafarers can quickly recognize. This specific flash sequence allows ship captains to distinguish this light from other signals along the coast.
