House at 68 Maple Street

The two-story wooden structure at 68 Maple Street exhibits large brackets decorating both the extended eaves and the roof line of the front facade bay.

Built in the late 1840s, this house represents an early example of residential development in Newton Corner during the period of suburban expansion near Boston.

The architectural elements of the house, including its square hip roof and Italianate features, demonstrate the design preferences of Massachusetts residents in the mid-1800s.

Located at the intersection of Maple Street and Nonantum Road, the house received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in September 1986.

The building stands as one of the few remaining vernacular square hip-roofed Italianate houses in the Newton area with its original architectural features intact.
