Horatio G. Foss House, Colonial Revival residence in Auburn, United States.
The Horatio G. Foss House is a three-story wood-frame building in Auburn with stuccoed walls, quoined corners, and a red ceramic tile roof. The property includes a sunporch on the east side, a porte-cochere on the west side, and a matching garage at the northwest corner.
The house was built between 1914 and 1917 as a residence for shoe factory owner Horatio Gates Foss. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
The home displays classical design elements typical of the early 1900s with its balanced front and curved side sections. The architectural style reflected the prosperity that wealthy factory owners of that era wanted to show.
The house is located in an established residential neighborhood and is easy to spot from the street. Keep in mind that this is a private residence and can only be viewed from the exterior.
The owner was a prominent shoe industry figure whose factory employed hundreds of workers at the time. The wealth generated from this industry made it possible to build this elaborately designed home.
