Reading Standpipe, Water tower in Reading, Massachusetts.
The Reading Standpipe reaches 138 feet in height and features steel and wrought iron construction near the intersection of Auburn and Beacon Streets.
Built between 1890 and 1891, the structure served as an integral component of Reading's first municipal water supply system until its removal in 1999.
The National Register of Historic Places recognized this engineering achievement in February 1985 for its role in Massachusetts public infrastructure development.
The water tower's location at coordinates 42°31′52″N and 71°6′21″W provided essential water pressure regulation for the Reading community throughout its operation.
The architectural design incorporates elements reminiscent of medieval fortification structures, making it stand out among other water towers of its era.
