Richards Field, Historical airfield in Kansas City, Missouri, US

Richards Field was an early aviation facility located at the intersection of Blue Ridge Boulevard and Gregory Boulevard on the border between Kansas City and Raytown. The site served as a significant air transportation hub for the area during its operational years.

The airfield opened in 1922 as the first airport facility in the Kansas City metropolitan area and remained active for nearly 30 years. Residential development brought operations to an end in 1949.

The airfield carries the name of John Francisco Richards II, a Kansas City pilot who died in World War I combat operations. The name honors an early aviation pioneer of the region.

A historical marker at 9063 Gregory Boulevard in Raytown marks the exact location where the original airfield facilities once stood. The site is easily accessible and serves as a reminder of the area's aviation heritage.

Charles Lindbergh visited this airfield during the early days of aviation, before the site was transformed into residential development. The location later became the Gregory Heights neighborhood, which features an artificial lake called Ong Lake.
