Dinwiddie County Pullman Car, Historic Pullman sleeping car in Midlothian, United States.
The Dinwiddie County Pullman Car is a heavyweight steel sleeping car built for luxury rail travel. It contains ten sleeping sections and an observation lounge where passengers could relax and enjoy views during their journeys.
The car was built in 1926 under the name Mount Angeles and changed ownership and names twice before becoming the Dinwiddie County in 1937. It then served with Norfolk and Western Railway for many years afterward.
The car appeared in a 1976 television film about President Franklin Roosevelt and his family. Visitors today can see how the upper classes traveled in luxury during the early 1900s through its preserved interior design.
The car sits at Hallsboro Yard near the intersection of VA 606 and VA 671, making it relatively easy to locate. Access can be limited at times, so checking ahead about visit availability is worth doing.
This car is one of only two surviving examples of a specific Pullman model produced in a single manufacturing batch during the 1920s. Its rarity makes it a special window into American railroad history.
