Ward Reservation, Protected area in Andover, Massachusetts, US
Ward Reservation extends across 704 acres of land with rolling hills, forests, fields, and wetlands between Andover and North Andover, north of Boston.
The initial section of Ward Reservation was donated in 1940 by Mrs. Charles W. Ward, followed by twelve additional land gifts between 1944 and 1999.
Stone walls dating from colonial times crisscross through the property, extending over 17 miles and revealing the agricultural heritage of Massachusetts.
The reservation maintains 13 miles of marked trails suitable for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing throughout different seasons.
A set of solstice stones sits atop the 420-foot Holt Hill, marking celestial events while offering 280-degree views toward Boston, Salem, and Blue Hills.
