Dr. Anna E. and Andrew A. Johnstone House
Dr. Anna E. and Andrew A. Johnstone House, National Register of Historic Places residence in Des Moines, United States.
The Dr. Anna E. and Andrew A. Johnstone House features Queen Anne architectural elements with ornate details across its ten rooms and triple lot layout.
Built in 1887, this residence became part of the Polk County Homestead and Trust Company Addition Historic District in 2016 after its National Register listing in 1996.
The property represents the evolution of professional women in Iowa, as Dr. Anna Johnstone transitioned from teaching to becoming one of the first female osteopathic physicians.
Located at 1830 8th Street in Des Moines, the building served both residential purposes and as a medical practice for Dr. Anna Johnstone following her husband's death.
The residence remains in the possession of the original family, maintained by Jon Royal, who represents the fourth generation of the Johnstone lineage.
