Buckingham House, Colonial house in Milford, United States
Buckingham House at 61 North Street is a two-and-a-half-story timber structure with clapboard siding and a central chimney. The facade displays five window bays on the ground floor and three on the upper level, with the entrance centered on the front.
The land was granted to Thomas Buckingham in the 1600s, and construction of the house began in the early 1700s. This makes it one of Milford's oldest surviving structures from the colonial period.
The property received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and became part of the River Park Historic District in 1986.
The house is located on North Street and forms part of the River Park Historic District in town. Visitors can explore the exterior from the sidewalk and walk through the surrounding neighborhood to see other period buildings.
During the American Revolution, the south lawn of this property witnessed a confrontation when local militia under Captain Bryan held off British forces. This moment links the building to the struggle for independence that shaped the new nation.
