Tantrum, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Darien Lake, US.
Tantrum is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Darien Lake, a theme park in western New York State. The track runs through three inversions and uses single-car trains that seat riders in a single row, keeping the layout tight and the ride short.
Tantrum opened in 2018, replacing an older water ride that had been part of the park for many years. The new design came from Gerstlauer, a German manufacturer known for building compact looping coasters that fit into tight park spaces.
Tantrum draws some of the longest lines in the park, which gives a sense of how popular it is among visitors of all ages. Riders often cheer at the top of the vertical drop, making the queue area surprisingly loud even before boarding.
A minimum height requirement applies, so check the posted sign at the entrance before joining the line. Weekends and holidays tend to draw the biggest crowds, so visiting on a weekday morning gives a better chance of a shorter wait.
Tantrum belongs to the Euro-Fighter model line, where the first drop goes beyond vertical, meaning the track angles past 90 degrees before leveling out. This tips riders slightly forward before the descent begins, which is a different feeling from a standard drop.
