Nash County Confederate Monument, Civil War memorial in Rocky Mount, United States
The Nash County Confederate Monument was a memorial featuring a soldier figure standing upright on a Corinthian column made of light granite stone. The statue was originally located in Riverside Park on the east side of Falls Road.
The monument was completed in 1917 and funded by Colonel R. H. Ricks, a Civil War veteran. He provided the necessary resources for its construction and installation in the community.
After various debates about Confederate symbols in public spaces, the Rocky Mount City Council made the decision to remove the monument in 2020.
The monument was located on public grounds in Riverside Park and was freely accessible to visitors. It was removed by the city in 2020 and is no longer displayed at the original site.
Four additional soldier statues originally decorated the corner columns of the base but were later removed due to vandalism and preservation issues. These missing figures serve as a reminder of how views about public memorials have changed over time.
