The Confederate Soldier Memorial is a granite statue holding a rifle, located in Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Inscriptions on its base honor soldiers who fought during the Civil War.
The original monument from 1905 was damaged during courthouse demolition in 1966. A replacement statue was created later as a result of legal proceedings following the construction damage.
The memorial reflects ongoing discussions about historical representation, leading to its relocation to Maple Hill Cemetery in October 2020.
The memorial stands in the cemetery and is accessible to visitors who enter the grounds. The location offers a quiet setting among other graves and commemorative areas.
The current statue is a 1960s replica funded through a court settlement. This makes it a rare replacement created to correct damage caused by human error during construction work.
